Today’s children and families often have limited opportunities to connect with the natural environment. Modern family life has changed dramatically in the last two decades. Children spend more time viewing television and playing video games on computers than they do being physically active outside. Families are eating more processed unnatural foods due to their busy schedules which makes a family sit-down meal a rare event.
To add to the issue, we have a generation that doesn’t understand where their food comes from, which has contributed to an epidemic of obesity, heart disease, mental illness, and diabetes (just to name a few).
They also lack the ability to make a connection between the earth and themselves. This absence of association can lead to a curtailment of reverence and stewardship for the earth and one another. Disconnected youth are more likely to lead to disconnected adults.
Connecting with nature and our food sources provides many benefits including :
Perhaps you’ve just had an “aha!” moment of your own, where you realized that time on the trails or feet in the sand is necessary to the health and happiness of your family. Or perhaps you’re just beginning to search out ways to get your kids more engaged with the real world instead of a virtual one. Throw off your shoes and let Mother Nature take over your imagination — that’s where learning begins!
Modern WitchDoctor offers programs, educational classes and workshops within an outdoor setting, where children can enjoy nature and have fun, all while learning academic and life skills!

Many of our workshops focus on the ancient and primitive lifestyle of our ancestors. Primitive skills such as shelter building, fire starting, flint knapping (Making arrowheads) cordage from plants, nets, fish-traps etc. are all skills that are still considered survival. Using what nature provided is how ancient man survived until present day. We feel these same skills are still important to pass on and to help preserve a knowledge once forgotten. "Children of the Woods" offers many primitive adventures and craft workshops for children of all ages. Click link below to view our schedule
